Volunteer

Hospital Advocacy
Twenty-four hours a day-seven days a week, we have volunteers and staff on call to immediately respond to the hospital to provide advocacy for victims of domestic & sexual violence. The University Hospital Emergency Room has forensically trained nurses - SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) who gather evidence to increase the strength of the case as it moves through the criminal justice system.

Hotline Advocacy
Volunteer at True North Shelter as back up for staff to answer the hotline during busy peak times of hotline call activity.

Ex Parte Advocacy
Assist victims at True North Shelter to prepare the paperwork to obtain an ex parte (order of protection). Processing accurate, detailed and complete information on the necessary paperwork is critical. Highly trained staff guide the victim through this process, which may take from one to four hours to process depending on the situation.

Child Care
Volunteers provide childcare to women attending support groups.

Court Advocacy
Trained volunteers sit in the courtroom to provide eyes and ears for us to identify victims of domestic & sexual violence that may not have reached out directly to us.
